How do you manage pain?

I have been dealing with carpel tunnel like effects for quite awhile now. I also seem to be having a ton of problems with my back and neck. They are making it miserable to do any work on the computer or sewing machine. I finally took matters to the next level. I knew going to the doctor would just give them reason to do xrays, put me on steroids, or something worse like surgery. I definitely don't want that route. My mom has done acupuncture for a long time and also sees a chiropractor and masseuse regularly and has always encouraged me to try something different. So I sucked up the courage and decided to see an acupuncturist. I can't believe I am saying that I am sold. In the 2 visits I have seen her, I have more range of motion in my wrist and hardly have any pain. The swelling in my thumb (which was substantial and was constant) disappeared overnight. Visually telling. The ganglia cyst (which apparently was causing a lot of the pain) also is decreasing. So much improvement that I'm able to crochet much more lately. My neck is improving. Not great yet but improving. I can now turn it to back the car out which was extremely difficult to do prior. So how do you manage pain? Do you just deal with it? go to the dr? see a naturopath? get massages? or what? Just curious.

Have a healthy day.

I've heard that acupuncture is incredible! I have a friend that went through a heart and lung transplant that swears by it. I'm so glad it working for you Cyndi :)

I don't manage pain well at all. I usually try immobilization with ice and Advil and if that doesn't work I switch to heat and Tylenol. I whine and fidget most of the way through both, lol. It takes a week or more of consistent pain to get me to the Dr and I've been lucky in that it usually goes away by then.

I don't really manage pain - I just manage to be in pain. I'm glad it's working for you. When I witness your miracle, perhaps I'll give it a try.... somewhere down the line.
